Backup RIM Technology If NTP Deal Falls Through

GlobeandMail.com writes:
Research In Motion Ltd. co-chief executive officer James Balsillie said yesterday he has back-up technology to keep U.S. BlackBerry devices running should a three-month-old patent settlement with NTP Inc. fall apart.

"A workaround is a viable option," Mr. Balsillie said in an interview. The alternative technology would run BlackBerry phones and pagers and is designed not to infringe on patents held by NTP.
